GAME Plan Update

Last week I talked about the adjustments needed in order for our superintendent to consider our proposal about a classroom blog. Our superintendent was concerned about how the blog would be maintained and monitored. The adjustments explain the maintenance and how the blog will be monitored. I have an appointment set up with her this Wednesday. At this meeting I hope to get approval and a timeframe of when we can expect to get the blog up and running within our district. So I would say it has been successful in the sense that I have an appointment set up and hopefully can move forward after our meeting.

I think promoting lifelong learning is something I can apply to my instructional practice. Through this process I have been required to research and present benefits about blogs and education. Many of the benefits I have come across and researched, is information I did not know about or have prior knowledge of. Continuing the process and researching different resources has allowed me to present reasons for appropriate blog use in our classrooms and school districts. Demonstrating to students that education and learning does not stop once you leave school is one of the instructional practices I can apply to my classrooms.

Continuing to research the benefits of classroom blogs will promote the use within our school district. Further understanding the uses of blogs will help ensure that if or when we get approved for the blog, we do not have any issues with maintenance or monitoring the blog. For the blog to be successful students will need to buy in 100% and in order for that to happen, I will need to explain and promote the blog so students are eager for the resource. Understanding the uses and benefits will make this process easier and more attainable.

I will make adjustments to my Game Plan after discussing the current blog proposal with our Superintendent this Wednesday. Any adjustments or recommendations will be considered or added to our current proposal. Hopefully we will be able to move forward with the classroom blog and have the resource available to our classroom and community after the holiday break.

  1. Corey,

First of all it’s great to hear that you have a meeting with the superintendent about creating a school/district classroom blogs. I wish you the best of luck. You mentioned that “For the blog to be successful students will need to buy in 100% and in order for that to happen, I will need to explain and promote the blog so students are eager for the resource.” I agree that the key will be to get the students to buy into their learning and use of the blog and I was curious to how you are planning to promote the blog to students? Also were you planning on having the blogs open for the public to view and comment or restrict it just to your students?

  2. Corey,

You are absolutely correct when you mention that the students have to be excited about the blogging process in order to want to participate and complete the assignments. I think you will be surprised at their excitement and eagerness to write in their blogs. I have used blogs with my students and noticed that it has been one of the most exciting activities of the day for many of them. Our lab is open 30 minutes after school for students to work on "school-related" activities and I have noticed that many of my students are using this time to collaborate with one another through blogging. Good luck with engage your students, but I think you find that you will have little trouble interesting them in this method of communication.

  3. Corey,
As others have said it's good to hear you have a meeting set up with your district superintendent. I hope everything goes as planned.

If you have a positive attitude towards blogging, then I think your students will too. You may be surprised at how eager they are to learn about this new technology tool.
I also believe that by learning how to use blogs and then actually using them throughout our Walden courses will help you teach or model the correct way to utilize them for class work, projects or however you choose to make use of them with your students.

I look forward to hearing how your meeting goes.
